Live Oak —
A physical altercation between two men on April 5 almost turned deadly when one of them introduced a chainsaw into the fight, records from the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office show.
Otis James Upshaw, 58, 1008 Westpring Place, Perry, and another male had been fighting at their 129th Road job site near McAlpin around 10:50 p.m., when coworkers broke up the fight. After the fight was stopped, Upshaw produced a knife and then attempted to stab the victim, but authorities say that coworkers were able to retrieve the knife from Upshaw.
Records show that Upshaw then went to his semi truck, retrieved a chainsaw and started it. He then approached the victim, stating that he would kill him. Authorities say that Upshaw attempted to cut his victim across the throat and, in attempt of not being cut, the victim tried to grab the chainsaw. As a result, the victim’s hand was severely cut and four of his fingers were almost severed, records show.
Upshaw was arrested on a charge of attempted homicide.
