Mayo —
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office located the 82-year-old Mayo woman who walked away from her home in Lafayette County Tuesday, LCSO Sheriff Brian Lamb said.
On Tuesday, between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Ada Hofman, 82, walked away from her residence and was last seen in Suwannee County, Lamb said.
The LCSO wasn’t notified of Hofman’s disappearance until around 4:22 p.m. Tuesday, at which point a be on the lookout was issued.
Lamb said that around 10:42 a.m. Tuesday, a LCSO deputy saw a woman walking down the road while he was responding to a burglary in progress, which turned out to not have been that. Lamb said the woman may have been Hofman due to a jacket that matched a description. The deputy doubled back to where he saw the woman walking, but she was gone.
Lamb said that a search began with the LCSO and the Mayo Correctional K-9 team.
Lamb said that he learned that Hofman was picked up by someone who offered her a ride to O’Brien and that she was dropped off at the O’Brien Feed Store “trying to get to the bus station.”
Lamb said that sometime after that she found a ride to Lake City where she purchased a Greyhound bus ticket at 3 p.m. for the 5:15 bus to Palm Beach County, where her son lives.
Hofman is said to have an existing medical condition.
Lamb said that she is safe.
Lamb added that this is about the fifth time his office had to search for Hofman, but she is usually found within minutes near her home.
