The Florida Highway Patrol on Tuesday released the identity of seven individuals who were killed during the horrific accidents that occurred on I-75, near Paynes Prairie around 4 a.m. Sunday morning.
Those who were fatally injured on the northbound of I-75 include Adriana Carmo, 39, Edson Carmo, 38, Jose Carmo Jr., 43, Leticia Carmo, 17, and Roselia DeSilva, 41, all of Kennesaw, Ga. Also killed were Jason Lee Raikes, 26, Richmond Va., and his unknown passenger the FHP reports.
According to FHP, the crash occurred as 10 vehicles traveling north approached the 379 mile marker and encountered reduced visibility due to heavy smoke in the area from the Paynes Prairie brushfire, that officials say may have been intentionally set. Subsequent to driving into the smoke, all 10 vehicles became involved in a multiple vehicle crash.
As a result, the six were killed and several others sustained a range of injuries. The occupants of vehicle one, a 2004 Freightliner are listed as Hector Rodriguez, 50, Hialeah, Fla. and Abdul Brown, 57, Miami, Fla. Neither of them sustained any injuries, FHP reports show.
Jason Rentfrow, 29, Gainesville, the sole occupant of vehicle two, a 2011 Toyota Camry, received minor injuries. The driver of vehicle three, a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse, was driven by Jeffrey Stockton Mitchell, 51, Venice, Fla. Records show that Mitchell sustained serious injuries.
The occupants of vehicle four, a 2008 Honda Accord, included Jennifer Deutsch, 19, and Michelle Deutsch, 21, of Parkland, Fla., Candice Grams, 21, Boca Raton and Stacey Krasne, 21 of Parkland, Fla. Jennifer Deutsch and Krasne were listed in serious condition, FHP reports show. Grams and Michelle Deutsch sustained minor injuries.
Vehicle five, a 2006 Freightliner, was driven by Jody Moody, 53, Atchison, Kansas. Records show that Moody received minor injuries.
According to FHP reports, vehicle six, a 1993 Toyota, was driven by James Alvin McGill., 21, Gainesville. Records show that McGill and his passenger, Steven Camps, 23, Gainesville, sustained minor injuries.
FHP records show that vehicle seven, a 2005 Toyota Matrix was driven by Raikes, who perished in the accident. According to reports, an unnamed passenger in that vehicle was also killed.
James Buford Maddison, 22, Orlando, was the driver of vehicle eight, a 2007 Infinity. While Madison sustained serious injuries, his passengers, Theodore Schrader, 21, San Antonio, Fla., Jacob Stern, 22, Gainesville and Jonathan Shearer, 22, Tallahassee, incurred minor injuries.
Vehicle nine, a 2012 Dodge Caravan, was driven by Edson Carmo. Other occupants of that vehicle included Roselia DeSilva, Jose Carmo, Jr., Adrianna Carmo, Leticia Carmo and 15-year-old Lidiane Carmo of Kennesaw, Ga. Lidiane Carmo was transported to Shands, records show.
The occupants of vehicle 10, a 2011 Ford Econoline Van, included the driver, Weberson Barbosa, 36, Marietta, Ga. and Joilson, Lima, 34, Kennesaw, Ga. According to FHP reports, Barbosa incurred minor injuries and Lima was listed in serious condition. Other occupants of vehicle ten included Marcia Silva, 50, Atlanta, Ga., Juliana Lima, 28, Kennesaw, Ga., Lucimara Boutin, 31, Metro Atlanta, Ga., David Wagner, 31, Metro Atlanta, Ga., Miria Almeida, 34, Kennesaw, Ga., Brendo Barbosa, 16, Marietta Ga. and Suly Reis, 51, Metro Atlanta, Ga.
According to FHP reports, Weberson Barbosa sustained minor injuries and Joilson Lima suffered serious injuries. Reports did not indicate the condition of the other passengers in the Ford van.
