Local teen crowned "Miss Jacksonville Outstanding Teen 2008
Catherine Trisch competed for the title and won the crown
On Saturday, Dec. 17, Catherine Trisch competed for the title of Miss Jacksonville Outstanding Teen. The pageant was held at 7 p.m. at Florida Community College at Jacksonville, Kent Campus. The Jacksonville Outstanding Teen pageant is a preliminary to the "Miss Florida Outstanding Teen" pageant to be held on July 4 weekend in St. Petersburg. Winners from the Miss Florida pageant proceed to the "Miss America Outstanding Teen" pageant a division of the Miss America Organization.
Catherine is the 15-year-old daughter of Jake and Cynthia Trisch of Branford. She is currently a freshman at Ft. White High School and is an active member of Living Springs Family Worship Center of Branford. Catherine was the captain of the J.V. volleyball team and is a member of the varsity basketball team at Ft. White High School.
Pageant scoring was broken down as follows: 35 percent interview, 35 percent talent, 10 percent lifestyle and fitness, 15 percent evening wear, 5 percent on stage question. For her talent, Catherine sang "Habanera" an aria from George Bizet's opera, "Carmen." Catherine was awarded college scholarship money along with hosts of other prizes from community sponsors.
Catherine's platform is "Creating Access To Stories" (CATS). Catherine has collected 1242 new and gently used books and in turn has donated them to organizations such as area Early Learning Centers (Head Start). She has been featured on the Kids In Need, Books Indeed website and is also partnered with Reach Out and Read Florida. If you wish to assist her with this very worthy cause by donating new or gently used children's books, please visit "http://www.freewebs.com/catsbookdonations/" for further information. Monetary donations receive corporate matching funds to procure children's books for various organizations and schools. Catherine believes that if parents take time to read to their children, it promotes quality parent-child bonding and inspires children to develop their imagination through the stories they read. It also opens the line of communication between parent and child.
Miss Trisch was sponsored by Walker Wood Products, 6112 Quattlebaum Road, Jacksonville.
Catherine wishes to take this opportunity to thank her sponsor; Diane Saunders (owner), Friends Fine Things Boutique of Branford; and Chelsea Oxendine (vocal coach) for assisting her in this pageant.
