Suwannee County Coordinator Johnny Wooley was fired Tuesday night by a 3-2 vote of the county commission. The motion to fire Wooley was made by newly elected District 5 commissioner Wesley Wainwright, who was sworn in earlier that day.
Commissioners Douglas Udell and Billy Maxwell voted to keep Wooley.
Udell questioned the need to fire Wooley, asking Wainwright who he was indebted to politically to make such a move. Wainwright said he simply acted on the wishes of those in his district who said they are not happy with the direction the county has been going in recent years. Maxwell said he saw no reason to fire Wooley, since Wainwright gave no reason for doing so.
