Murphy McLean of Wellborn accepted the job of Suwannee County Coordinator Tuesday afternoon, Commission Chairman Jesse Caruthers said by phone.
After interviewing and ranking seven candidates, commissioners voted Monday to set the salary at $71,000 and have staff members offer the job to applicants beginning with the top scorer.
Top-ranked George Sirmans, of Palm City, rejected the offer earlier Tuesday. McLean was the second-ranked applicant.
In his interview, McLean told commissioners he would not accept the job for less than $88,000.
Commissioners are expected to formally hire McLean at the next commission meeting May 19.
