Branford —
The Bucs boys basketball team was defeated by the Lafayette Hornets on Friday night in Branford, 53-29.
Clifford Register, the team leader in scoring, was out with an ankle injury head coach Perry Davis said. Register will be out until after the first of the year, which means four more games without him.
“We are floundering a bit without him. The team feeds off of him,” Davis said. “When he’s not there, they seem to be struggling.”
He added, “As long as he is healthy by the time the district tourney hits, we’ll be good.”
Shequille Williams led the Bucs with 10 points. The team had a total of 26 rebounds.
“We did not rebound well tonight,” Davis said. “The team looked really tired tonight. Bell really beat the thunder out of us on Thursday night.”
Branford is in its second season of having a middle school basketball program. Davis said that “we can see the fruits of our labor already.”
The Bucs will be working on rebounding to prep for upcoming games. Davis said their free throws are getting better.
“We did do a better job on free throws. We were at 50 percent from the line tonight. Normally we are in the low 20s,” Davis said.
