Live Oak —
In what seems like deja vu, Suwannee County's remaining head high school football coach was ousted Monday. The announcement came Tuesday morning that Branford High School head football coach Jason Bond's coaching position will not be renewed. The announcement came less than 24 hours after Suwannee High School prinicpal Ted Roush reported that SHS head coach Willie Spears' contract would not be renewed.
“After careful consideration of this past football season and the current direction of the Branford Buccaneer football program, I have decided, after consultation with my Athletic Director Wade Cashwell and Assistant Principal Jimmy Wilkerson, along with a discussion with coach Bond to not renew the head coaching position for coach Bond,” BHS principal Seth Thoreson stated in a press release.
The press release was dated Nov. 14, but was released Tuesday morning. The announcement came one day after Suwannee High School Principal Ted Roush reported the ousting of SHS head football coach Willie Spears.
Thoreson said that Bond has agreed to help and assist in the transitional period to help ensure that the best interest of the student athletes at BHS is kept a priority.
“The relationship among Coach Bond, Athletic Director Cashwell, Assistant Principal Wilkerson and myself is completely focused on what is best for the student athletes at BHS,” Thoreson stated.
According to Thoreson, the position of BHS head football coach will be posted in the near future.
“It is our desire, over the next several weeks, to find our Buccaneer family a strong head coach,” Thoreson stated.
Thoreson maintains his gratefulness for Bond’s eagerness to instill strong morals and a hard working attitude for the students of BHS.
“His eagerness for working with young people on and off the field has been well acknowledged,” Thoreson wrote.
In closing, Thoreson wished Bond happiness and success.
During a brief interview, Bond stated that he has no plans at this time.
The Buccaneers’ overall record for the 2011 football season was 2-8, after falling to Bell Friday night.
