Bucs host basketball preseason men’s classic

Live Oak — The Branford Buccaneers started the season off with the Men’s Preseason Classic on Monday and Tuesday night in Branford.

In the first match up on Monday night, Lafayette High School Hornets went head to head with the Trenton Tigers. The Tigers defeated the Hornets 50-21. The Bucs  took on Aucilla Christian Academy and was defeated 55-35.

Head coach Perry Davis said, “Our first game we played very sloppy just like a preseason game is suppose to look, we came out the second game much more at ease, less nervous.”

On Tuesday night, BHS defeated the Hornets 49-37. The championship game followed between ACA and Trenton, with Aucilla taking the win, by a 20 point spread, 53-23.

“We had great defensive play from Shequille Williams and Sr. Joey Stillwell, once they get comfortable in our system they will be a force to be reckoned with.  We are struggling to find a fill in for Kenny Hitt who injured he knee in last year’s district tournament and that is a huge hole to fill, we hope to havehim back by Christmas,” Davis stated in an email.

Jose Barron and Clifford Register for the Bucs and Landon O’Steen and Robert Kirsch of Mayo made the All Tournament Team.

The Bucs have seven seniors on the team this season, but only two of them have previous experience.

Davis said that all of the seniors “are very committed to contributing to our basketball program.”
