Bucs’ finish season with loss to Bell

Branford — The Branford Buccaneers (2-8, 0-3) finished off the season with a loss to the Bell Bulldogs (3-7, 1-3), 44-8.

“I was disappointed with our defensive effort. We didn’t do a very good job of stopping Bell,” head coach Jason Bond said. “By the same token, we were really injured. We have a lot of guys that are out because of injuries. So that contributed to the loss.”

Cole Lamb rushed for 239 yards last Thursday which put him over a thousand yards rushing for the season, Bond said that he “was a bright spot for us.”

“That’s kind of a team goal more than an individual goal to have a thousand yard rusher. We were pleased with that,” he said.

Bell quarterback Bruce Thomas through a five yard touchdown pass to James Oslager. The extra point kick was no good, bringing the score to 6-0. Jeremy Zimmerman had two touchdown carries with the two extra point kicks by Oslager being good, brought the score to 20-0. Bell’s Austin Richey had a touchdown at 3:46 in the second quarter, the extra point kick by Oslager was no good, increasing Bell’s lead to 26-0.

With 19 seconds left in the second quarter, CJ Bradow made the 12 yard reception from quarterback Robert Morris for Branford’s lone touchdown. Kenny Johnson ran in the two point conversion. Bringing the score 26-8 at the end of the first half.

Bell dominated the second half with Thomas, Zimmerman and Mkuu scoring touchdowns. Oslager had difficulty with the extra point kicks in the second being zero for three. The final score was 44-8, Bell.
