Undefeated season ends; Bucs fall to Lafayette 35-0

The Branford Buccaneers fell from their undefeated status Friday night getting beat by Lafayette County rival the Mayo Hornets 35-0 in home territory. Meanwhile Mayo remained undefeated and appear to be a real threat for other teams in the two schools district, and even beyond regular season play.

The Bucs in their previous four games had racked up a lot of points but was unable to put any on the score board with Mayo.

The Bucs held the Hornets to seven points in the first half of play, but succumbed to 14 points in both the third and fourth quarter. Branford had 155 rushing yards with most of that coming in the second half. Yards in the air for the Bucs was 62 in 5 of 12 completions and two interceptions. Meanwhile the Hornets passed all night completing 16 of 23 for 295 yards. They had 144 yards on the ground.

The Bucs leading rusher was John Perry who carried the ball 8 times for 76 yards; Tim Clark was 15 for 41 yards; Kyle Certain was on the receiving end with 2 for 33 yards.

John Perry, 6; D. J. McWherter, 4; Jay Fraddosio, 7; Kyle Certain, 5; Tim Clark, 5; Wade Armstrong, 6; Daniel Garrett, 3; David Bass, 3; Willie Clemons, 1; Anthony Donato 3. Donato also had a Fumble recovery.

The Bucs currently are 4-1 on the season and will travel to Bell Friday night. The Bulldogs also have a 4-1 record and beat Tallahassee Maclay 18-0 last Friday. Going into that game Maclay was undefeated with a 5-0 record. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
