Live Oak —
Unemployment rose in Suwannee, Hamilton and Lafayette counties in June, according to figures released today by the state.
The jobless rate in Suwannee reached 10.5 percent, up three-tenths from May. The June 2009 rate was 9.9 percent.
In Hamilton, unemployment hit 12.1 percent, up from 11.2 in May. The June 2009 rate was 11 percent.
Lafayette's jobless rate rose as well, reaching 7.9 percent, up five-tenths from May. The May 2009 jobless rate was 7.4 percent.
Statewide, unemployment fell to to 11.4 percent, down from May's figure of 11.7 percent.
Unemployment in Florida remained higher than the national average, which was 9.5 in June.
