Live Oak — A Live Oak man was killed late Thursday when he fell from the bed of a pickup truck carrying a mattress set, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
John W. Rogers, 49, suffered critical injuries and died Friday at 5:40 a.m. at Shands UF, said FHP.
The driver of the 1991 Chevrolet pickup, 19-year-old Travis F. Hewiett, also of Live Oak, was unhurt.
Hewiett was southbound on Hogan Road just south of CR 136 in Suwannee County with Rogers atop the unsecured mattress set at 10 p.m. when the unsecured cargo shifted and fell onto the road along with Rogers, reports show.
Charges are pending an investigation, FHP said.
