Palms Medical Group hosting Diabetes Alert Day

Branford — Palms Medical Group is hosting Diabetes Alert Day on Tuesday, March 22 from 9 a.m. to noon at 103 US 27 S.W., Branford. There will be free diabetes screenings for attendees. No appointments or fasting before the event are necessary.

Palms Medical Group will offer a seven-question quiz to determine one’s risk for diabetes, free glucose testing and even A1C testing for those patients who score high on the risk quiz.  A1C testing is used to measure one’s average blood glucose level over the past two to three months.

Approximately 24 million people in the United States are living with diabetes, the seventh largest cause of death in the country. Type 2 diabetes, also known as adult onset diabetes, is the most common form of the disease.

Though there is no cure for the disease, people at high risk of diabetes can delay and possibly prevent the disease by being active and maintaining a healthy weight and diet. In addition, regular healthcare checkups and diabetes screenings can help to stop diabetes before it starts.

Palms Medical Group, which has multiple locations throughout North Central Florida, is a not-for-profit healthcare provider committed to bringing quality, affordable primary care and preventive services to its communities. For more information, call Palms Medical Group at 386-935-3090 or visit www.palmsmg.org.
