Lafayette High School: Setting the Christmas mood

Mayo — The Lafayette High School Music Department presented its annual Christmas Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 in the high school auditorium.

Music Director Dale Croft welcomed those in attendance following an opening act skit and performance by the band's drum line which set the tone for a great evening.

Performances during the annual concert aren't limited to just the musicians and singers; both the Marching Band Dance Team and Majorettes perform on stage as well. This year the dance team performed to "Christmas Dream”, while the majorettes selected "Sleigh Ride" for their music. The band performed the opening "Star Spangled Banner", "Jingle Bell Rock" and "White Christmas". Additionally, student director Malachi Watson, developed two original arrangements that were performed by the band this year, "Christmas Jam" and “Siberian Sleigh Ride". The LHS Singers opened with the duo of Kimberly Bearden and Rebecca Raymer singing "The First Noel”. The entire group then performed "Here Comes Santa Claus", “Light a Candle" and "Peace, Hope and Joy". Senior Jason Taylor added to the evening's entertainment as he performed a Christmas medley on his guitar.

The evening was closed out with the entire music department on stage for the finale.
