Jasper —
Hamilton County voters decided that Republican candidate Mitt Romney is the better suitor for the White House, but as of press time it wasn’t clear if the rest of the nation felt the same way.
Locally, Tom Moffses (Rep.) beat Democratic candidate for superintendent of schools Spencer “Sarge” Lofton, 3,553 votes to 1,708.
Republican Jeff Siegmeister was chosen by Hamilton voters to fill the Third Circuit State Attorney seat being vacated in January by Democrat Skip Jarvis. Siegmeister won Hamilton County over Democrat Bill Brannon 2,632 votes to 2,494. Whether Siegmeister won the circuit was not made available at press time.
County commission for District 1 went to Republican Beth Burnam over Richard Williams (Dem.), 837 votes to 613 votes.
Wes Douglas received 4,112 votes from Hamilton County for Circuit Judge, Group 5. The only other candidate was Angela Cancio as a write-in. The numbers for Cancio were 185.
Republican Ted Yoho (3,046 votes) easily won Hamilton County for the District 3 representative in congress. He won Hamilton over J.R. Gaillot, Democrat (1,931 votes) and Philip Dodds, NPA (162 votes).
Incumbent Bill Nelson (2,551 votes) won Hamilton County for United States Senator. He won Hamilton over Republican contender Connie Mack (2,547 votes).
For state senator for District 3, Democrat Bill Montford beat Republican John Shaw, 2,727 votes to 2,341.
