Jasper —
White Springs Police Chief Ken Brookins announced Tuesday night that they are getting closer to making an arrest in the March 27 robbery of the Dollar General Store with a potential suspect.
“We are making some progress,” said Brookins.
The Dollar General Store in White Springs was robbed at gunpoint on the night of March 27 by what is described to be a young black male approximately 6’2”-6’3” and weighing about 230 pounds according to investigators. The suspect robbed two clerks and one customer of an undetermined amount of money and then fled the area.
Officer Jason Golub was on duty the night of the robbery in White Springs and Brookins said he has been doing some excellent investigative work.
A similar armed robbery occurred at the Family Dollar Store in Live Oak on April 2 by reportedly two males shortly after the store opened. The two suspects forced five customers to the back of the store. Brookins stated that a dollar store in Valdosta was also robbed recently but said it’s unclear if all three robberies are related.
“In the three separate robberies, Officer Golub is the only one who has come up with the name of a potential suspect,” Brookins said. “Needless to say, it's just a suspect. We haven't found him yet, but that's a far cry from what we had the last time.”
The investigation is ongoing at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call the Hamilton County Crime Stoppers at 386-792-8477 or Officer Jason Golub at 386-397-2222.
