Jasper — Tommy D. Jenkins, the White Springs postmaster, is under federal investigation, a special agent with the Office of Inspector General of the United States Postal Service said.
Special Agent and Public Information Officer Kenny Smith said that he can only confirm there is an investigation into Jenkins, and won't elaborate on what the investigation entails.
"All I can confirm is that there is an ongoing investigation," Smith said by phone.
Joseph Breckenridge, with USPS corporate communications, said that Jenkins started with the USPS in May 1971 and was appointed the White Springs postmaster in August 1988. He said Randy Acklin has been appointed acting postmaster and Jenkins was placed in a "non-duty" status as the investigation continues.
