Two Jasper residents, one a juvenile, were shot at Buddy Parker Park the evening of July 14. Three Live Oak men and one juvenile were later arrested by authorities after fleeing the scene.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on July 14, officers from the Jasper Police Department and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office responded to shooting at Buddy Parker Park located near SW 9th Avenue on MLK Drive, in Jasper. Police found two Jasper residents, one a juvenile, with gunshot wounds. One of the victims was shot in the buttocks, and the other in the leg. Neither injury appeared to be life threatening.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a verbal argument between the victims and suspects occurred near Buddy Parker Park. This verbal argument escalated into a physical altercation, said Police Chief Jeff McGuire. During the fight, one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired several times, hitting both victims.
Police say the shooter, Charles Edward Hines IV, and fellow assailants Quintan Edward Hines, Jason Lamar Cherry and one unnamed juvenile, all of Live Oak, fled the scene in a motor vehicle. Witnesses at the scene provided a description and a police “look out” call was broadcast to surrounding jurisdictions. Shortly, authorities in Suwannee County stopped the vehicle.
Because of a cooperative effort by all jurisdictions involved, all four alleged suspects were taken into custody, said McGuire. Three are currently lodged at the Hamilton County Jail. The juvenile suspect was charged and released. This investigation is still on going, according to police.
Charles Edward Hines IV has been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, Person engaged in a criminal offense involving weapons and affray. Quintan Edward Hines has been charged with principal in the 1st degree with aggravated battery and affray. Jason Lamar Cherry and the unnamed juvenile were both charged with affray.
The victims were treated on scene by Hamilton County EMS and transported to Shands Lakeshore in Lake City.
