Robbery suspect nabbed in White Springs
A Lake City man was arrested Sunday after "snatching" merchandise from a White Springs Dollar Store and fleeing in a stolen Chevrolet Cobalt, say police.
Sydney Ollie Gibson, 51, is suspected of robberies in Hamilton, Suwannee and Columbia County. Just a few days after robbing Spires Grocery store in Lake City, Gibson robbed the White Springs Dollar Store at around 8:00 p.m. Saturday night. Lt. Rodriquenz of the White Springs Police Department responded to the 9-1-1 call. However Gibson had already fled in a Chevrolet Cobalt that had been reported stolen by Lake City P.D., according to a Columbia County Sheriff's report.
Sgt. Timothy Morgan with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office spotted the Cobalt on CR 246 in Columbia County. Gibson was not present and a search commenced, reports show.
On Sunday morning, White Springs P.D. received a tip that led to Gibson's arrest. Once released from Hamilton County Jail, Gibson will be transferred to Columbia County to face charges.
White Springs Police Chief Ken Brookins said he would like to extend thanks to the Columbia County S.O., the Hamilton S.O. and the citizens of White Springs for their cooperation in helping solve these crimes.
