Jasper —
On Thurs., Nov. 15, the Hamilton County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation became official with the formation of a committee and appointment of officers.
“The Hamilton County Veterans Memorial Park is soon to be a reality,” said committee chairman Bo Beauchemin.
The park will be located in front of the courthouse annex on about a 2-1/2 acre parcel of land and will be visible from US 41 through the city of Jasper. With nearly 1,300 veterans in the county, the park will be a welcome sight for all those who have served in the military, as well as for the entire community.
Aside from chairman Beauchemin, Veterans Service Officer Clay Lambert will serve as vice chair. Cecil Davis was appointed secretary, Laura Dees treasurer, and Susan Ramsey will serve as marketing director/community liaison. Other board members include Emmett Mathis, Marty Wood, Sr. and William Mitchell.
Beauchemin said the board members formally named the committee Hamilton County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation and agreed to form a non-profit, 501c3 status corporation, which will allow all donations to be tax deductible.
“The committee agreed to memorialize on the Wall of Honor, the 41 Hamilton County residents who gave their life for their country,” said Beauchemin.
They also agreed to allow individuals to purchase bricks or pavers/plaques to recognize their loved ones who have served or are currently serving in the military.
The overall concept of the park, the landscaping, electrical, irrigation and lighting, as well as fundraising methods were topics of discussion at their first meeting.
“Construction is expected to begin within the next 60 days,” said Beauchemin.
Anyone who desires to make a donation to the Park Foundation can do so by contacting Clay Lambert-VSO or Laura Dees-Supervisor of Elections, or mail a check to 1153 NW US Highway 41, Suite 1, Jasper, Fl. 32052.
If anyone has questions, feel free to contact Bo Beauchemin at 386-855-1023 or Clay Lambert at 386-792-1272.
