Jasper — Judge Sonny Scaff had the honor of swearing in two new county commissioners and one returning commissioner at the Hamilton County Courthouse on Tues., Nov. 20.

Up first was Beth G. Burnam who was elected on Nov. 6 to serve as district 1 county commissioner, replacing Ronny Morgan.

Judge Scaff noted that Burnam is the first female to ever hold a seat on the Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners.

Next, Robert Earl Brown, with his right hand raised and his left on the Bible, took the oath of office as county commissioner district 3. Brown replaces outgoing commissioner Lewis Vaughn, who served for 27 years.

Last, but not least, was Harry “Buster” Oxendine, who really prefers simply being referred to as Buster. Oxendine was re-elected to serve as county commissioner for district 5.

After the ceremony and photo ops, the newly sworn in commissioners, their families and guests were treated to light refreshments of punch and pastries.
