A one-car accident in Hamilton County Monday resulted in six injuries and stalled traffic on Interstate 75, according to authorities.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., the driver of a car with seven occupants lost control, went onto the shoulder and hit some trees about a mile south of I-75’s exit for State Road 6, said Harrell Reid, Hamilton County sheriff.
At least three people were ejected from the car, he said.
Authorities shut down the interstate to make room for two medical helicopters to land, Reid said. Two of the injuries were critical and flown out, with at least one heading to Shands UF, he said.
Ambulances were summoned from South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, from Suwannee County and locally from Hamilton County, he said.
Six people were injured, while one person did not seem to be hurt, Reid said. He did not have the names of those involved.
A driver heading north on I-75 reported that traffic was backing up in the southbound lanes. As of 5 p.m., the interstate was no longer blocked, according to the Florida Highway Patrol’s accident-reporting website.
Reid said the Florida Highway Patrol is working the accident.
A representative of the FHP was not immediately available for comment.
