Usher in spring at the Wild Azalea Festival Mar. 15-16

Jasper — It’s almost that time of year again! Time to usher in the spring season with the Wild Azalea Festival in the historic town of White Springs. Everyone is invited to come out for this two-day festival on Friday and Saturday, March 15-16.

Friday events kick off with a guided hike along the Suwannee River from 4-6 p.m. To register please call 386-397-4461.

Friday evening there will be a “Sweets and Eats” tasting party from 5-7 p.m., followed by live music and a street dance in the center of town by the Adams Country Store.

The main events begin bright and early on Saturday morning at the community center, starting with a pancake breakfast and children’s art exhibit from 8-10 a.m. The students from South Hamilton Elementary will have a special surprise for everyone.

The rest of the day from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. an entire lineup of events will keep you entertained. The Suwannee Valley Plein Air Painters will be set up near the Adams Country Store where you can watch them create their individual masterpieces. Also, be sure to check out the original Florida Highwayman Artist R.L. Lewis and all of amazing works of art.

There will be more arts and crafts, a children’s area, wild azaleas for sale, a silent auction, delicious food and live music until 2 p.m.

The Birds of Prey exhibit will also be back this year where you can witness up close the free-flying falcons.

The crowd favorite will be the Little Miss Azalea contest that will wind up a perfect weekend in White Springs. Don’t forget to race a duck and win a kayak, too!

The Wild Azalea Festival is brought to you by the town of White Springs Special Event Committee, the State of Florida’s Nature and Heritage Tourism Center and Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park, and funded in part by a grant from the Hamilton County Tourist Development Council. For more information call 386-397-2310.
