With close to 200 in attendance, Hamilton County residents gathered for an opportunity to discuss issues relating directly to the farming community and relax over a dinner prepared in their honor.
Each year, the Hamilton County Farm Bureau, in coordination with the Florida Farm Bureau, hosts a dinner to celebrate the efforts of farm families in our community.
On Sept. 25, a BBQ dinner was held at the Jasper VFW meeting hall. Acting as Sentinels and hosting the night were members of the Hamilton County Future Farmers of America.
Welcoming participants and serving as master of ceremonies for the evening was Damon Deas. During the business meeting segment, Treasurer David Goolsby Jr., updated members on the financial soundness of the Bureau, before the new board members were elected.
Keith and Melissa Morgan were introduced as Hamilton County's 2008 Farm Family of the Year, along with twin daughters Brittney and Brandy. The Hamilton County Farm Bureau presented the Morgans with a plaque and a crystal vase commemorating their accomplishment. They were also given passes to the upcoming North Florida Fair in Tallahassee.
Adele Griffin, regional director of Senator Mel Martinez' office, addressed attendees on issues relating to North Florida Farming and Economics as did Jackie Smith, speaking on behalf of State Representative Ander Crenshaw's office.
Following the dinner, Dan Buchanan hosted the annual cake auction to raise money for the Kidney Foundation. Seven locally baked cakes were auctioned off generating a total of $790 in donations.
Approximately 50 door prizes were awarded during the evening.
