Pooches on parade

4-H dog show a big hit

By Heather Futch

Dogs of every size and color brought their owners to the Hamilton County 4-H dog show during the Hamilton County Fair on Thursday, Oct. 2. nearly 20 dogs showed off their best tricks and cutest costumes in hopes of being chosen most adorable.

Bonnie Box (FNP program assistant, Suwannee County Extension, UF/IFAS) introduced the charming contestants and their owners. After the dogs demonstrated their skills and beauty, the judge, Nancy Spearman of Jennings, choose the winners. As a former 4-H mother, previous secretary for the Central Florida 4-H Dairy Show and current owner of show mules and donkeys, Spearman is no stranger to animals, but making the final decisions was difficult.

The Hamilton County 4-H would like to thank each contestant for participating in this year’s dog show. They would also like to thank the following businesses for helping make this year’s event a success: CVS, Huston Veterinary Clinic and Jasper Hardware of Jasper; Cher at Hotheads Salon and Spa in Live Oak; Lake Park Veterinary Clinic; English Grooming Salon, Groomingdale’s, Poodle and Pooch, and Sam’s of Valdosta.

Registration fees were used to purchase ribbons and to enhance Hamilton County 4-H programs.
