Rural Folklife Days in White Springs

Photos and video included

Jasper — On Thurs., Nov. 1, about 1,200 students from local schools and surrounding communities had the opportunity to taste jellies, play traditional games, churn butter, sing songs, hear storytelling, quilt on a frame, taste sugar cane, assist a blacksmith, learn about lye soap, learn how handmade split rail fence is made and watch demonstrations of old-fashioned cane grinding, as well as learn how to whip a cow. Even more students are expected on Friday, and on Saturday, for those who missed it during the week, you can still come out to enjoy the festivities.

Rural Folklife Days runs from Thurs., Nov. 1 through Sat. Nov. 3, from 9:30 to 2:30. Park admission is only $5 for the day. Don't forget to stop by the H.O.P.E. booth for a delicious hot dog or hamburger and other treats!
