Jasper —
A vehicle was reported stolen from the White Springs Public Library parking lot on Tuesday, March 19, and a possible suspect has been identified, according to White Springs Police Chief Ken Brookins.
A chain of recent events led up to this latest vehicle theft, Brookins stated in his report. On Monday, March 18 at approximately 11:12 p.m., Officer Jay Golub observed a red Ford Escape bearing a Georgia tag of BZM4150 improperly parked in the parking lot of the S&S store after the business was closed. Golub ran the tag through dispatch to log the abandoned vehicle, at which time he was advised the tag came back to a black Ford truck. He then ran the vehicle identification number through dispatch and was advised that the vehicle was stolen out of Lawrence, Mo. The vehicle was entered into NCIC on March 8 with a suspect of Warren Kelly. The suspect was never located.
Reports further state on March 19, Officer Berry Raulerson responded to a call at the White Springs Library. Upon his arrival Mary Shaw reported that her car had been stolen. When Officer Golub heard the call, he, too, responded.
“Working together, Officer Raulerson and Officer Berry were able to establish Kelly as the possible suspect based on witness statements and a picture of Kelly that Officer Golub had obtained,” said Brookins.
A joint investigation is now underway involving the White Springs Police Department and the Lawrence Ks. Police Department in an attempt to locate Kelly, reports show.
