Jasper —
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating a homicide in Jasper, according to officials.
According to Hamilton County Sheriff Harrell Reid, a female body was found lying on 44th Street and SR 6 around 6:30 this morning by a worker from Suwannee Valley Electric Cooperative. Reid said a purse was found with the woman but isn't releasing the name or how she was killed at this time, but did state the case is being treated as a homicide.
Reid stated officials believe the body was placed at the scene sometime between 10:30 p.m. Sunday and 6:30 this morning. She is a middle aged, white female who may have lived in Lowndes County or has connections there.
The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office from Georgia and Third Circuit State's Attorney Office in Florida are also on scene investigating.
The body was sent to the Medical Examiner's Office in Jacksonville.
