HUSBAND CHARGED IN FATAL SHOOTING

A Jasper man was arrested this afternoon in the shooting of his wife, a fourth-grade teacher at North Hamilton Elementary School, according to Third Circuit State Attorney Skip Jarvis.

Police say Leonard Joeris shot his wife, Lorrie Joeris, 42, in the head last Sunday night with a .38 caliber pistol at their home at 132 10th Street Southwest in Jasper. A 9-1-1 call reporting the incident was made to the Sheriff's Office at 7:29 p.m. Lorrie Joeris was still alive when she was taken by ambulance from the scene, according to Sheriff Harrell Reid. She was later pronounced dead by emergency personnel en route to

Shands UF. The medical examiner later ruled the death a homicide.

Lorrie Joeris was buried yesterday at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper. She left behind two teenage children, Westen James Joeris and Elizabeth Joeris.

Leonard Joeris was arrested at about 3:45 p.m.
