Veterans park taking shape

Jasper — Hamilton County Veterans Memorial Park is beginning to take shape. All the trees that were slated to be removed have been chopped down and the land in the center of the park has been cleared.

Work began on the tree clearing just three days after Veterans Service Officer Clay Lambert got the go ahead from the Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

The new park is located in front of the courthouse annex on a two and a half acre parcel of county-owned land and will serve nearly 1,300 veterans in the county, as well as the general public.

Construction of the welcome wall and entrance sign out by US 41 has already begun. Additional items still to come are a Wall of Honor, a concrete plaza, flag poles, pedestals, walkways, benches, a timber bridge and a large pavilion with a stage.

New fast growing shade trees will eventually be planted and laid out symmetrically to enhance the pavilion and the plaza, according to Lambert.
Anyone who desires to make a donation to the Veterans Park project can do so by contacting Clay Lambert-VSO or Laura Dees, Supervisor of Elections, or mail a check to 1153 NW US Highway 41, Suite 1, Jasper, Fl. 32052. There is also an account set up at First Federal Bank where supporters can make donations. Any questions about the new Veterans Memorial Park can be answered by contacting Clay Lambert at 386-792-1272, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
