Jasper — Madelyn Lee Powell

Oct. 15, 2011



Madelyn Lee Powell, 4-month-old daughter of Marlin and Ginger Powell of White Springs, Fla., passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011 following an extended illness at Shands at U.F. in Gainesville, Fla. Madelyn was an inspiration to all who had the chance to meet her.  She will be remembered fondly by family members as an angel who will always loved.

Survivors include her parents, Marlin and Ginger Thomas Powell; three brothers, Travis, Tyler and Marlin Powell; three sisters, Magon Adams (George), Kaitlin Powell and Renee Powell; grandparents, Shirley Burrows, Robert Burrows and the late Gessner and Esther Powell and the late Harvey Thomas. Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2011 at the Lake City Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Craig Henderson officiating.

Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, Jasper, FL. was in charge of arrangements.





Evelyn Elizabeth Johnson

Aug. 18, 1924 - Oct. 24, 2011



Evelyn Elizabeth Johnson, age 87, of Jasper, Fla. passed away Monday, Oct. 24, 2011 at Shands Lake Shore Hospital in Lake City, Fla. Evelyn was born in Morven, Georgia on Aug. 18, 1924. She later married Dan Johnson and they moved to Jasper in 1974 from the Miami area. They were both very active members at the First Baptist Church in Jasper until his death in 2005. In the years that followed she made her home at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center where she continued to inspire others with words of encouragement and positive outlook on life.

Survivors include one son, Paul Johnson (Judy), Edgewater, Fla.; one daughter, Vickie Corbett (Roger), Jasper, Fla.; five grandchildren, Tonya, Stephanie, Brett, John and Desiree; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Henderson and Pastor Wayne Harrell officiating.  Interment followed at Moody Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Suwannee Valley Nursing Center (Activities Dept.)  427 NW 15th Ave, Jasper, FL. 32052.

Emory Roxdale “Rocky” Blanton

March 11, 1965 - Oct. 19, 2011



Emory Roxdale “Rocky” Blanton, age 46, died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011 at South Georgia Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at Beggs Funeral Home Madison Chapel with visitation following the service.

Interment was held Monday at 2 p.m., Oct. 24, 2011 at Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, Florida.

He was born in coral Gables, Florida on March 11, 1965, and graduated from Hamilton County High School in 1983. He joined the Marines Corps and served 10 years from 1983 – 1993. He was a Florida State Trooper from January 1987 to December 2009, and was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Live Oak.  He married Amanda Brantley in 1986.

He is survived by his wife Amanda Blanton; 2 sons: Justin Emory Blanton and Joshua Elliot Blanton both of Jennings; 1 daughter: Jessica Lauren Blanton of Jennings; 1 brother: Heath Lamar Blanton of Jennings; 1 sister: Michelle Blair-Vaughn of White Springs. 1 granddaughter: Hayleigh Rae Capps.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Freddie Lamar and Hilda Ann Blanton.

Donation may be made to the Emory Roxdale Blanton Memorial Fund, C/O First Federal Saving and Loan, 507 Hatley Street West, Jasper, Florida 32052.

Beggs Funeral Home Madison Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
