Hamilton, Lafayette move on in All-Stars

LIVE OAK-Thirty teams began their road to the state tournament this weekend, competing in the District 6 all-star baseball tournaments June 10-13 at the First Federal Sportsplex.

The double elimination tournaments featured teams from Branford, Fort White, Hamilton County, Jefferson County, Lafayette County, Lake City, Madison County, Perry, Suwannee, Suwannee Valley (Trenton), Union County and Wakulla County.

Teams from the ages of 9-15 competed with teams from each age group advancing to their respective state tournaments.

State tournaments will be held at Jax Beach (July 2) for 9 year olds, San Jose (July 15) for 10-year-olds, Live Oak (July 15) for 12-year olds (60 and 70 foot bases) and Fernandina Beach (July 22) for 13-15 year olds.

The tournament kicked off Thursday with a pair of 12:30 games as Lake City met Suwannee in the 10-year-old division and Jefferson County met Suwannee in the 12-year-old class.

Lake City handed Suwannee a 6-2 loss in the 10-year old division to send them into the losers bracket, while Suwannee held off Jefferson 8-7 to advance in the winners bracket of the 12-yeard old division. 

Suwannee and Wakulla met in a best of three series in the 9-year-old class as several teams withdrew leaving just those two teams left in that division.

Wakulla won the first two games of the series 14-12 and 11-8 to advance to the state tournament. 

In the 10-year-olds bracket, Lake City, Suwannee, Branford, Fort White, Lafayette, Madison, Hamilton, Wakulla and Union all  competed.

Branford did the best finishing 2-2 losing to the eventual runner-up team Madison County, while Suwannee, Lafayette and Hamilton all  went 1-2.      

Lake City beat Madison County 10-0 to win the title. Both Lake City and Madison County will advance to state.   

In the 12-year-olds bracket, Jefferson, Suwannee, Suwannee Valley, Lafayette, Hamilton, Lake City, Fort White, Union and Wakulla all  competed and Hamilton County knocked off Layatette 10-0 to win the title.

Both Hamilton and Lafayette will advance to the state tournament as will Suwannee, which went 3-2, since they are hosting the state tournament.   

In the 13-year old class, Fort White, Lafayette and Hamilton competed in the class and Fort White brought home the title with a 8-2 win over Lafayette.

Lafayette finished 1-2 to finish second, while Hamilton went 0-2 to finish third.  

In the 15-year-olds bracket, Fort White, Suwannee, Hamilton, Jefferson and Perry competed.  Fort White, which knocked off Suwannee 9-1 in the opening game, went on to win the title over Jefferson 9-5 and will advance to state. Suwannee finished 1-2 while Hamilton was 0-2.
