Trojan basketball begins



The Hamilton County Trojans basketball season kicked off in the classic held in Live Oak this past week.

The Trojans would come back to win a tough ballgame against Mayo 60-56, but would drop the title game on Saturday night against a tough Suwannee team 69-58.

Leading the way on Thursday night against Mayo was Josh Jones. He would score 10 points in the fourth quarter that helped the Trojans erase a two point deficit.

Also coming alive in the final quarter was Desmond Kiser, scoring six points to help the Trojans comeback after trailing most of the game.

Tiwan Cooks took advantage at the foul line dropping in three points from the stripe to push his point total to nine points, the same total Cam Cohen would finish with.

Other Trojans adding to the winning total was Anthens Stevens with eight, Desmond Williams five, Devlin Belote five, Jeremy Cole four, Eric Jackson two, John McCloud and Gareth Johnson with one.

In the championship tilt on Saturday night, the Trojans entered the final quarter tied at 43, but was unable to pull out the win.

Some great efforts were turned in by the Trojans. Cam Cohen earned tournament team honors scoring 10 points, had six steals in a great defensive effort, rebounded the ball four times and blocked a shot.

Desmond Williams and Josh Jones shared scoring honors in the game with 16 for the Trojans. Williams would get two steals and eight rebounds while Jones had 11 rebounds and three steals.

Desmond Kiser would play another great game scoring six points, grabbed three boards, blocked a shot and had a beautiful assist.

Other Trojans scorching the nets were Devlin Belote with six points, Anthens Stevens with four, Tiwan Cooks two, and Glenn Sheppard with two points.
