The Hamilton County boys' basketball team continues to leave it all on the court. According to Coach Murphy, the Trojans played hard against Fort White on Monday, but the shots just simply would not fall in a 73-55 loss to Fort White. The game was actually a lot closer than the score would indicate as the Trojans were down by only four points at the half.
The Trojans had to lace them up against a powerful East Gadsen team, but just could not find the answers for a very talented team. They certainly provided their best efforts against probably the best team the Trojans will face this year and certainly the largest school on the schedule.
Starke was next on the schedule, and the Trojans would not be denied until the final buzzer, dropping a 70-65 decision in a tough battle. This was probably the best overall game for the Trojans, according to Coach Murphy.
Leading the scoring against Fort White was Josh Jones with 18 points. Jones was also dynamic under the boards grabbing 10. He also had two steals, blocked two shots and had an assist.
Glenn Sheppard dropped in eight points in the game, while grabbing three rebounds. He also had two steals and deflected a pass.
Desmond Kiser played a good overall game scoring two points and grabbing four rebounds, while hustling his way to three steals. He also blocked two shots and handed out an assist.
Cam Cohen scored four points in this game, while finding five rebounds. Defensively, Cohen stole the ball once, deflected a pass and added to his team leading assist total with four.
Tiwan Cooks scored five points in this one while grabbing a rebound and had two assists. He also had two steals and deflected a couple of passes.
Other Trojans reaching the scoring column were Gareth Johnson with six points, Desmond Williams with six, Tyrell Claridy with four and Eric Jackson with two.
Against Starke, Jones again lead the team with 22 points, hitting 10-17 from the field. Jones dominated the glass with 14 boards and had two assists. In an outstanding effort, Jones put up some great defensive numbers with seven steals and deflected five passes.
Cohen also turned in a nice offensive effort producing 14 points, hitting two from downtown to keep the Trojans alive in the game. Cohen also had three boards, deflected three passes and had an assist.
Coach Murphy had to be pleased with the hard working efforts of Desmond Williams. He scored five points in the game, had a rebound, made five steals and deflected 12 passes, making it really tough on Starke. Williams is the ultimate team player, which was again supported by his eight assists in this game.
Other Trojans scoring were Sheppard with nine points, Anthony Stevens with eight and Tiwan Cooks with seven.
