Live Oak — To the Editor:

My family and I are from Georgia and were on vacation last week in Orlando, Florida. As we were heading back home last Sunday, my daughter and son-in-law had car problems. We had stopped at the rest area on I-75 Northbound near Gainesville, Fla. Their car wouldn't start when trying to leave. We had been there for about an hour, without anyone asking if they could be of any assistance. This included 2 Florida Highway Patrol Men. I was really discouraged at the thought of the officers not even asking could they call someone or a tow truck or something. I know that the patrol men couldn't fix our car, but they could have shown a little compassion. Our family comes to Florida every year on vacation and I believe we probably help pay their salaries. By this time we were quite stressed as we were approximately 8 hours from our homes.  After about an hour Aram Petit from Live Oak, Fla. asked if he could be of any help. He was under the hood, under the car, doing his best to try and figure out what was wrong with the car. It turned out that with it being on Sunday that the parts stores and dealership was closed, so we had to stay in a hotel that night and wait for the parts store to open up on Monday. The problem that Mr. Petit said he thought was wrong the car, turned out to be the case. His wife Jennifer was even kind enough to give their phone # if they could be of any further assistance to us, and they even offered to give my mother-in-law (which is handicapped) their folding lawn chair to sit in while we waited on a tow truck to come as it was to hot to remain in the car. They were very kind to us, and I would like to recognize them and let them know as I heard a preacher recently say "no good deed will ever go unrewarded." We are truly grateful that there are people still in this world that will take the time to try to help others in need. You don't find that often. We appreciate all they did for us.  May God Bless this family. Thanks again Petit family!
