Live Oak —
A preliminary agreement between the Suwannee County Board of County Commission and “Project Christmas” representatives was unanimously agreed upon by the BOCC during its July 6 recessed meeting.
According to Suwannee County Administrator Randy Harris, the preliminary agreement calls for a formal agreement between the principals of “Project Christmas” and the BOCC to be reached and agreed upon by July 31.
While the company requested the BOCC to sign the preliminary agreement, various issues such as tax abatement and building permits remain for the county to resolve through workshops prior to the July 31 deadline.
During the board’s discussion, County Attorney Hal Airth stated that as long as the company understands that everything in the memo of understanding is negotiable, he would have no objection to signing off.
Harris elaborated that the memo of understanding had changed somewhat from the original draft that was delivered to representatives of the unnamed company, that will possibly locate at the catalyst site in western Suwannee County near the I-10/US 90 interchange. However, he emphasized the county has not agreed to such changes and the memo of understanding is a working document.
BOCC Chairman Wesley Wainwright stated that there is more work to be done with the catalyst site project and the BOCC must approve everything that is done. He added that he would like to see something more concrete before going forth with the land purchase that would provide the needed acreage for the company to locate on the catalyst site.
In an effort to meet the July 31 deadline, the BOCC has scheduled a 1 p.m. workshop for July 17 to continue working out the details between the county and company.
