Suspect also fired fatal round in 2011

Live Oak — The Suwannee County teen that was arrested for the weekend murder of a local hairdresser was the same person who fired the fatal round that killed a robbery suspect in January 2011, Suwannee County Sheriff Tony Cameron said Wednesday.

In January 2011, Anthony Michael Ortiz, then 15, fatally shot Robert Bruce Koester, 47, Live Oak, during an armed robbery on Jan. 3, 2011 at the Hamilton Ave. home in which he shared with his dad, police stated then.

A Suwannee County Grand Jury determined last year that Ortiz was justified in the shooting death of Koester. That decision was based on the grounds of self-defense and defense of others after Ortiz shot Koester twice with a rifle. Koester had reportedly burst into the Ortiz home with a handgun and attempted to rob Ortiz’s father, Ralph Ortiz. The two fought over the gun before Anthony Michael Ortiz entered the room and shot Koester twice, police said.
