Jasper —
Hamilton County High School (HCHS) head football coach Mike Pittman has submitted his resignation as the team's coach to the district school board office effective Monday, Jan. 7, according to Superintendent of Schools Thomas Moffses.
"We appreciate his contributions to the school’s athletics program," said Moffses on the school district's website. "The search for a new coach will begin in the very near future and the public will be notified via the district’s web site and Facebook page when a selection has been made."
No reason was given to why Pittman resigned. Pittman was not available for comment as of this publishing.
The HCHS Trojans record this past season was 2-8.
Pittman has an extensive career in the sport of football and he led the Suwannee Bulldogs to four consecutive state football championships from 1987-90.
Then he spent some time in Jasper coaching the HCHS Trojans until he was relieved of his duties in 2004 due to his controversial coaching style, which many said was too abrasive and rude. Pittman, however, continued teaching physical education at the school until the end of the 2004-05 school year.
Pittman later returned to HCHS in February of 2009 to coach the Trojan football team again.
Now, with Pittman’s resignation, the search is on for a new head football coach for the HCHS Trojans.
The district’s web site is http://www.hamiltonfl.com/ and you can follow on Facebook by searching Hamilton County School District.
