Live Oak —
A California woman has been arrested in Live Oak after attempting to defraud a local bank, according to the Live Oak Police Department.
Crystal L. Caballero, 21, San Francisco was arrested April 25 by the LOPD, after an alert employee of TD Bank in Live Oak notified authorities of Caballero’s suspicious activities.
According to LOPD Det. Justin Bates, Caballero is connected to a ring of people operating throughout the United States. The ring uses credit cards to make fraudulent purchases for large amounts and cash advances.
While the credit cards may be legitimate, they are connected to an out of state bank that is questionable, Bates said. Bates explained the third party bank pre-authorizes the purchases or cash advances and by the time the actual issuer of the card is able to decline the transaction, the individual or individuals with the cards are gone with the money or merchandise.
“This is one of the first arrests in this case that is being followed by the secret service,” Bates said. “This group has hit South Florida banks for thousands of dollars.”
Caballero was taken into custody by the LOPD and charged with fraudulent use of a credit card and possession of a fraudulent driver’s license.
