Live Oak — Mildred Thomas Smith

Mildred Thomas Smith entered into eternal life Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Shands University of Florida hospital in Gainesville, Florida. Mildred was born Sept. 4, 1938 to the late Cobie Thomas and Mae Frances Thomas in Live Oak, Florida. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and joined Oak Grove Baptist Church. Mildred also attended other local churches. She was a graduated of Douglass High School class of 1956. She attended Suwannee River College. Mildred was a loving lady who touched the lives of many people.

A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Triumph The Church And Kingdom Of God In Christ. There will be no visitation. She is survived by three loving children: One daughter Denise Thomas of Live Oak, Florida, two sons Eddie Smith Jr. (Cherry) of Jacksonville, North Carolina and Anthony Thomas of Live Oak, Florida. Three grandchildren: Bryson Smith, Makayla and Jayden Thomas. One sister Elvira Thomas of Live Oak, Florida. One brother Bennie Thomas of Live Oak Florida; and a host of family and friends. Harold A. Curry

Sept. 17, 1926

Harold A. Curry, 85, of O’Brien, Fla., passed away April 10, 2012 at home. He was born Sept. 17, 1926 in Trenton, N.J. as the fifth of six children. After graduation from high school, at the young age of 17, he enlisted in the US Navy, serving aboard the USS Herperia (AKS "Lucky" 13) Liberty ship in the Pacific Theatre. After WWII ended, he returned to Trenton, where he married Vera M. Johnson (1926-1982) in 1947 and raised a son, Thomas H. Curry.

His professional life began as a printer and an Operations Manager of several New Jersey papers, until he began teaching printing at the Marie H. Katzenbach School for the deaf in Trenton. He retired and moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. in 1979 due to health reasons. He became a widower in 1982.

Harold was a longtime member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in St. Petersburg. Harold and Mary Ellen, also being a member of St. Matthew’s, grew closer together over several years and finally married in 1994. They moved to O’Brien in 1996, where they built the Lucky 13 Ranch, and enjoyed the rural, retired lifestyle.

He was a member of the American Legion for 65 years. He served the Masons as Grand Master, and Grand Chaplin of Mercer Lodge # 50 F&AM, in Trenton, N.J. He joined the Suwannee Sportsman’s Club, where he served as Historian, acting Secretary, and Official Comedian. He and Mary Ellen also enjoyed traveling with various Motorhome Clubs over the years.

Harold was preceded in death by his siblings: Esther, Paul, Catherine, John, Joan and his first wife Vera. He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Curry, of O’Brien; his son: Thomas H. and wife Donna Curry of Trenton, N.J.; and granddaughter, Kelly, of Philadelphia, Pa.; his daughter: Cynthia and husband Jonathan Rogers, of Loudon, N.H., and grandson, Nathan; and son Lyman and wife Heather Quackenbush, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and granddaughter, Sarah and an expected grandson; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Freddie.

A private memorial service will occur at a later date.

Lundy D. Grimmage

April 10, 2012



Mr. Lundy D. Grimmage, a former resident of Live Oak, Florida, passed away in Miami, Florida on April 10, 2012.

Mr. Lundy D. Grimmage was the son of the late Mr. George Lee Grimmage and Mrs. Ruby Mae Granville Grimmage.

Mr. Grimmage is survived by brothers, Ronald Jerome Grimmage Sr., Darryl Grimmage, Randy Leon Grimmage, Ben Jermaine Hughes and George Lamont Grimmage; sisters, Georgia Mae Grimmage Carwise, Linda Lavon Grimmage Morrell, Detree Evette Grimmage Allister, Angela Renee Grimmage Johnson, Kevra LaShannia Grimmage, Alecia Lasha Hughes Finisse and Amarantha Grimmage Melton; nieces, nephews, cousins and many other close relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Grimmage will be Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Sweet Hope Baptist Church in Live Oak, Florida.

Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, April 20, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. in the D.M Udell Funeral Home chapel.

Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery.

Irene Markham Parsons

Sept. 21, 1921

Irene Markham Parsons, 90, passed from this life on Thursday, April 12, 2012. She was born on Sept. 21, 1921 to William Joshua and Lucy Jane (Nettles) Markham in Lake Butler, Florida.  Irene graduated from Bradford County High School in 1940 and married Horace Russell Parsons Jr. in 1942. She and Russell made their homes in the Madison and Live Oak areas until 1968, when they moved to Ormond Beach, Fla.

Irene was executive secretary at North Florida Telephone in Live Oak, a medical secretary in Daytona Beach for 15 years, and an accounting secretary for 20 years – she retired in 2003.

Mrs. Parsons was a member of Community Presbyterian Church, Live Oak, Fla. She enjoyed needlework and all crafts.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years: Russell Parsons; son: Horace Russell Parsons III (Kay); daughter: Rosiland Cribbs (Jerry); 5 grandchildren: Lynn Parsons, Russell Parsons (Nicky), Holly Parsons Mouton (Jonathan), Leslie Cribbs Dobson (Kelly), and Kyle Cribbs (Ellie); 8 great-grandchildren: Calee, Isabella, Bryson and Addison Parsons; Avery Dobson and Madeline Cribbs; and Nathan and Charles Mouton.

A visitation was held from 4 – 6 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Daniels Funeral Home, Live Oak, Fla.

Services for Mrs. Irene were at 11 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2012 at Community Presbyterian Church, Live Oak, Fla. with Rev. Jim Walkup and Rev. Randy Wilding officiating. Interment followed in Live Oak Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Community Presbyterian Church or the American Heart Association.

Mary Ann Mason

Mary Ann Mason, 88, Live Oak, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012. The Clearwater, Fla. native was a member of Live Oak Church of God. She is survived by her daughter: Brenda Mason, Clearwater, Fla.; two sons: Joe (Liz) Mason, Bangor, Maine, Ray (Theresa) Mason, San Rosa, Calif.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21 at Live Oak Church of God with Rev. Carl Thomas and Rev. Mark Weir officiating. Interment will follow in the Live Oak Cemetery.

Deborah “Debbie” Diane Brinson

April 18, 2012



Debbie passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at age 52. She was a life-long resident of Live Oak. Debbie worked the last 12 years at the Brown Lantern where she was treated like family by Raleigh and Clara Brown. Debbie loved life, the Florida Gators, and living on the family farm in the Antioch community. Debbie was the daughter of the late Joe Arthur and Voncile Landen Brinson. She is survived by her three brothers:

Terry, Tony, and Stephen.

The Memorial Visitation will be held at Daniel’s Funeral Home in Live Oak on Friday, April 20 from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to Haven Hospice who provided excellent care during Debbie’s battle with cancer.
