Live Oak — Emily Blackwell Denton Curtis



June 1, 1917 - April 5, 2012



Emily Blackwell Denton Curtis, age 94, passed away April 5, 2012 in Asheville, N.C. She passed peacefully with her son Rob and long time caregiver beside her. The family is grateful for the many hospice workers and caregivers who allowed her to stay in her home for so many years.

Mrs. Curtis was born June 1, 1917 in Live Oak, Fla. She graduated with a BA in Education from Florida State College for Women and did graduate work at the University of Tennessee. She raised her family in Knoxville, Tenn. where she was the first female elder in Sequoyah Presbyterian Church, taught piano, and supported the Knoxville Symphony. After the death of her husband F.G. Denton in 1990, she married Al Curtis and lived with him in Richmond, Va. until his death in 2005. Al and Emily gave many informal concerts and Al assisted her in publishing Tales From the Suwannee River Country, a memoir of her early years. Mrs. Curtis moved to Asheville, N.C. in 2005 to be closer to family. She loved playing her grand piano and performing for friends and family. She was an avid reader and loved her cats.

She is survived by her sister Martha Steele of Tallahassee, Fla., daughter Lynn Blackwell Denton of Philadelphia. Pa., two sons, Rob Denton of Asheville and John Denton of Portland, Ore., and two grandsons, Lakota Denton of Asheville, N.C. and Chris Denton of Maui, Hi.

A memorial service will be held at Brahma Ridge Event Center in Candler, NC on April 21 at 1:00 PM.

Ercel Anderson Camp



Dec. 18, 1918 - April 15, 2012



Ercel Anderson Camp passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 15, 2012, at her residence in Jasper, Fla. She was 93-years-old at the time of her death. She was born in Lane, South Dakota on Dec. 18, 1918, to Oliver Wendell Anderson and Delia Wheeler Anderson. Her parents and her brothers, Oliver, Lloyd, Elwood and Dewey Anderson pre-deceased her. Her beloved husband, John Council (Buddy) Camp, of Jasper, Fla., passed away on Jan. 23, 2008. They were married in 1939 and shared their lives together for 67 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Sally C. Moritz, Valdosta, Ga., Ellen C. Batcheldor (Dr. George D.), Taylors, S.C., Ann C. Roberts (Pete), Marietta, Ga., and Bette C. Conine (Jim) Kennesaw, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, Julie Ann Moritz Hubner, (Doug), Beth Moritz Howell (Mark), Jud Moritz (Anna), Jennifer Batcheldor Rexford, (Cory), Amy Batcheldor Brockwell (Jeff), Beth Batcheldor, Camp Roberts (Sherrie), Suzanne Roberts Perce (Shawn), Jamie Conine, and Ben Conine (Brittney); 14 great-grandchildren; Trey Hubner, Sally Hubner, Adrian Howell, Sarah Ann Howell, Wilkin Moritz, Sydney Rexford, Cole Rexford, Molly Brockwell, Carson Brockwell, Brooke Roberts, Connor Roberts, Talory Perce, Kate Perce, and Jack Perce. Also surviving is sister-in-law, Sara Camp Abel, Charlotte, N.C.

This remarkable and gracious lady will be greatly missed by those whose lives she has touched. Her family and friends will remember her as a loving wife, a dear mother, an “electric grandmother", and a dear friend. She was a devoted mother and created many wonderful memories for her family. She will be remembered by her family for her steadfast love and loyalty, her fun loving personality, her wonderful cooking skills, her beautiful smile, and for the fact that she never raised her voice! She earned and enjoyed the love and respect of all those whose lives she brightened.

Ercel graduated from Pasco High School in Dade City, Fla. She attended Florida State University and was awarded a teaching certificate. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Fraternity. Her first teaching job was in White Springs, Fla. While teaching school in White Springs, she met and married John C. (Buddy) Camp. She lived with her family in White Springs, Suwannee Springs, and in 1956 moved to Jasper, Fla. where she resided for the rest of her life.

Ercel was an avid Gator fan who for years followed them to both home and away games. She spent her summers at her mountain home located in Land Harbor, N.C. She and Buddy traveled throughout the United States in the family motor home. She was a wonderful bridge player. She was a charter member of the Ladies Golf Association at the Hamilton County Country Club. She won the Ladies Championship Golf Tournament at Land Harbor Club when she was in her late 70s. She was a member of the Jasper First Baptist Church.

Ercel was fortunate to have dedicated care givers which provided her with  and the opportunity to live in the comfort of her own home. The family would like to sincerely thank Martha Morgan, Kathy Boone, Alma Paul, Rhonda Chapman, and Marcella Temple for taking such wonderful care of our precious mother.

Services were held Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Riverside Cemetery with Pastor Justin Young officiating.

 Memorial contributions in Ercel's honor may be made to the charity of your choice or Haven Hospice 6037 US Hwy 90 W, Lake City, FL 32055.

William Davenport Jr.



April 15, 2012



William Davenport Jr. died on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at his home in Live Oak. He was 72.

He is survived by his fiance, Mary Grant, three daughters, one son, 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, one brother and one sister. Lots of loving friends also survive Rest in peace.

Tom Lashley Sr.



Aug. 3, 1941 - April 7, 2012



Tom Lashley Sr. was a retired former farmer, insurance agent, painter and multi-term school board member for Suwannee County. He lived his entire life (except for two years in gainesville), in Live Oak, Florida, and was extremely proud of his community and family. He was a devout Christian and loving father to his wife, three children, and nine grand-children. Hobbies included reading, talking, and spending time with family. He spent many hours at nursing homes, and always tried to attend funerals, because he was worried that not enough people would show up for the deceased and their families. He believed strongly in America and its values, and in its ability to be the "light on the hill" for the world. He will be forever missed by his family and friends. Heaven gained a good man on April 7, 2012. Mr. Lashley is survived by his wife of 46 years: Jean Lashley, Live Oak, Fla.; three sons: Tom & Dana Lashley Jr., Mayo, Fla., Clint & Wendy Lashley, Live Oak, Fla., Brad & Alicia Lashley, Panama City, Fla. and nine grandchildren. Services were held at Tiger Lake Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 10 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Melvin Owens officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
