<font color="#0033CC">TOWN HALL MEETING:</font> BOYD IN MAYO MONDAY
U.S. Rep. Allen Boyd will host a town hall meeting at Lafayette County Community Center at 1 p.m. on Aug. 17. Boyd will be speaking about the economy as well as the healthcare debate in Congress, according to a press release. The forum will give the people of Lafayette County the opportunity to ask questions about issues that are important to them.
"Like many people in North Florida, I know that responsible healthcare reform is needed, but it must be done right," said Boyd in the press release. "I felt it was important to take the month of August to meet with people across the district and discuss the proposed healthcare legislation that is being debated in Congress."
Last month, protestors disrupted a speech being given by Boyd to a group of future business leaders at a community college in Panama City, Florida. Protestor tarred and feathered an effigy of the congressman. However, Lafayette County Sheriff Brian Lamb says he expects the meeting will be conducted in a mature manner and will not to get out of hand. Nonetheless, there will be at least one deputy present at the meeting.
The crowd at Boyd’s Aug. 12 town meeting in Live Oak was loud and at times combative, but no one was escorted out and no one who attempted to speak was shouted down.
The Lafayette County Community Center is located at 150 SW Community Circle in Mayo.
