It is celebrated by billions around the world including non-Christians, with the celebration of Santa Claus. The holiday is observed by nations around the world. Celebrated traditionally on Dec. 25 of each year, Christmas also closes the Advent season and ushers in the 12 days of Christmastide.
Hanukkah
This an eight-day Jewish holiday that starts either in late November to late December. This year Hanukkah began at sundown on Tuesday. The holiday is to commemorate the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the 2nd Century BCE Maccabean Revolt. It is usually observed by lighting a candle on a menorah each night of the eight day holiday.
Kwanzaa
A celebration honoring African-American heritage and culture. Kwanzaa is celebrated Dec. 26 until Jan. 1 of each year. Some of the features include lighting a candle holder with seven candles which usually culminates in a feast and gift giving. The holiday was created by Maulana Karenga. It was celebrated for the first time in 1966-67.
