Live Oak —
The only one to benefit by the catalyst park scheme so far is the guy who sold the land. A company is interested, but requires a 10 yr. tax abatement. The board must approve this & some members are opposed, the same ones who oppose every step forward. Most of us can figure out who they may be. It is more childishness. The land was taxed @ about $9. an acre for a total of $900. per yr. Once the taxpayers bought this land the tax rate is now $0.00. Over 10 yrs. this abatement will cost a loss of revenue equal to about the purchase price of around 1 1/2 acres of the over priced land. This company is talking up to 350 non-ag jobs. The board cannot justify refusing the abatement by any stretch.

Several people voiced opposition to the land purchase for the commercial "park". Who cares, they did it anyhow & it is simply real estate speculation with your $$$. So far it is a total bust. A chance exists to unload this pig in a poke, but the usual self serving power plays at Suwannee Co. Comm. could well trash it. # 1 point is why would any entity want to be involved in any business venture with the co. comm. calling the shots? That's beyond absurd.
Give them what they want & stay out of free enterprise. They can't run a rural gov't., why would anyone think they run this?

Why is the Flag flying high in the round about and all over the County when a DOC Sgt was murdered while on duty!
Editor’s note: According to the United States Code for the Flag of the United States, only the governor can instruct flags to be flown at half-staff. Gov. Rick Scott requested flags be flown at half-staff on Friday, March 23 at all Florida Department of Corrections institutions, the City Hall of Lake City and the Columbia County Courthouse.

Your story that ran on March 14 concerning the catalyst site. It seems odd to me that Suwannee County commissioners are going ahead with a land purchase with much improvements done on this property. But yet we’re good enough to pay for the land but not know what business is going to come in there. If anything smacks of insider trading, this is it right here.
