Live Oak — A prisoner transport van carrying eight inmates was involved in a head on collision with a vehicle driving down the wrong side of I-10 in Suwannee County early Sunday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
A 1997 BMW, driven by Charles Henry Glover, 59, of Jacksonville, was driving eastbound in the westbound inside lane at mile marker 291 around 4 a.m. when it hit head on with a 2011 Chevrolet prisoner transport van that was traveling westbound.
The van, owned by PTS of America LLC and driven by Timothy Scott Chappell, 26, of Portland, Tenn., was carrying the eight inmates to an unknown location. Chappell received minor injuries but his right seat front seat passenger, Di Do, 41, of Crossville, Tenn., suffered critical injuries and was transported to Shands Gainesville with life threatening injuries, FHP reported.
Glover as well as five of the inmates received minor injuries. Two of the inmates suffered serious injuries while another suffered critical injuries.
Charges are pending, FHP reported.
The names of the inmates are: Andrew Kwap, 20, serious injuries; Johnny D. Odom, 33, minor; Kevin J. Vance, 45, critical; Terry G. Futrelle, 24, serious; Ryan R. Schroder, 26, minor; Lawrence Parks, 24, minor; Darrell Pelzer, 22, minor; Dennis Williams, 24, minor.
