Rant & Rave - Jan. 4, 2013

Live Oak — Our BOCC made the right decision on hours of alcohol sales.
Also, churches need to be taxed like other entertainment venues.

When do we project repairs to the road directly north of the Suwannee County Courthouse? Is it going to reopen?

A hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 24 to decide the fate of the buildings and the future of Warren Street. Search ‘Warren Street sinkhole‘ at suwanneedemocrat.com  - Editor

Did I miss the article about the candidates for Teacher of the Year for Suwannee Schools? When will the banquet be and where will it be? Tickets picked up where? Price?

This will be published as soon as we have all the details. - Editor

What is the city/county requirement for having a yard sale? What if it is on your own property? What if you go to another location? Are there any rules and regulations one must adhere to?

When will the next school year begin in August? We are trying to plan our family vacation.

With the students and teachers being out on Christmas vacation, I am wondering why the blinking lights on the speed limit signs near the schools. Are these preprogrammed?

Hey, do you think if you were to lose 50, 100 or even 150 pounds, your health just might improve?  Perhaps, even have more energy for desired activities?  Live longer?  Remember, even should you not want to eat healthy, your federal government does want this for you!  They may even outlaw food that is bad for your health, so you can save yourself!

I also live in the Rocky Sink
area off 169th Road. I have dogs and they are out all day in my yard. They bark and probably at stupid things, like UPS and FedX trucks, however, mine are in at night and don't bark all night long. I also hear that dog and wish I could figure out where he is. I would try to talk to the owner and if that does't work then call and complain to the police. There is or should be a curfew - limit to what neighbors have to or should have to put up with. I agree with the Rant & Rave n of the 21st. If you don't care enough for the dog, find it a loving home, contact me... and I will take the dog off your hands. It will be happier and quieter if it's shown that someone cares and given some attention.

I can’t believe people can say lasso all guns. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for guns in the hands of the people. Can’t they realize that this is not about shooting? This is about killing. If this person had not been able to get a hold of a gun, he would have killed these children with a bomb or some other way. Why don’t you lasso all cars? More people are killed by them than they are by guns.

The Economic Alliance article seems to be very contradictory. Not by the newspaper, but by the people that were interviewed. No communication but Dennis is not to blame. No progress, but Dennis is not to blame. Then who is? Therein lies the question. Happy New Year everybody.

Why are the personnel changes on the board agendas only available to the school board members? Shouldn't these be made available to everyone. Why are they not included on the agenda for the public and wouldn't it be good to have the full agenda printed in the Suwannee Democrat?

Get excited about Suwannee Basketball. Jeremy Ulmer has brought the program back to a very respectable level. The Dogs travel to Madison on Saturday, January 5th and return to the SHS gym on Tuesday, January 8th. All varsity games begin at 7:30 PM. Go Bulldogs!

Let's see what the people of Suwannee County want regarding the Suwannee County Agricultural Fair - keep it as a spring fair or return to the way it was for many years as an autumn fair. It seems the enthusiasm surrounding it was greater when it was held in October or November. Thoughts on this?

Let's keep the dialogue going pertaining to the security and safety of the Suwannee Schools. We need an officer to have his/her office directly facing the front doors. You could section this off with some panels. The school resource officers need to be patroling the hallways and entrance areas. All other doors must be locked at all times. Thoughts on this?
