Rant & Rave - Dec. 9, 2011

Live Oak — I live in 3 Rivers Estates and noticed that for the 2nd time someone had ripped out an a/c unit from a mobile that is pretty close to the road. I know someone called and reported to the Sheriff and was treated with indifference. Are more people noticing that a/c's are being ripped off in the area? We pay our law enforcement officials to catch criminals, not to just ignore crime. I feel so bad for those people, I don't know who they are, but it is disgraceful that you can't have anything without thieves pilfering and stealing rather than working to get their money. A sad commentary for Suwannee County and their law enforcement.

Really, what’s the difference between having the garbage dump at the entrance to the city and having liquor through out the city and county? Both stinks and causes great damaging effects!!!

The developer for the proposed landfill suffers from two logical fallacies. He supposes that we did not completely understand the savings that his landfill would bring to the County; “more public education is needed”. We completely understand the savings. SAVING our economic development corridor, SAVING our water supply, SAVING ourselves from the blight of a landfill at our “front door”. He also supposes that misinformation resulted in public opposition to the landfill. Actually, the public and business community were well informed with accurate information and they reacted accordingly. A municipal waste landfill at that location was a bad idea and will always be a bad idea. Stay on guard citizens and business community in case they return.

Do we really need an officer to stop & turn their lights on before & after school just to make sure our children cross the road safely? Stop people, & let them cross! Also, it's a school zone with a slower speed limit for a reason. Our children are in these vehicles, please take better care not to ride on someone elses bumper & be that impatient as if you could make us drive any faster. Think about it, if it was your child crossing the raod, would you stop? Would you ride so close to the car ahead of you if your child was in it?

How long is the city going to allow people to park on the right a way on Silas Dr at the ballfield they park in the sidewalk or there truck sticks out in the road.

In regards to 12/7/11 issue:

"Scenes from Christmas on the Square" shows many great pictures of this event. My peeve is with the captions. Did you really mean that the information (distributed by the Suwannee Coalition)WAS healthy, as opposed to being ill? Or did you mean that the information being given was for peoples' health?

Also, is there really such a thing as a ball PING hammer? (Your Name on a Horseshoe photo) I was under a lifelong impression that it was PEEN.

Suwannee County animal control officers need to watch Animal Planet, the need to watch the Houston, Philadelphia and Miami ASPCA and see how they do their animals, see what they do when it’s cold out. You’re not supposed to leave an animal in the same condition that you find it in if it’s not in a good condition. They need to watch Animal Planet.

I went to the Christmas parade. It was the best Christmas parade Suwannee, Live Oak has ever had. I really enjoyed it. I want to commend Lowe’s for remembering one of their employees who passed away. She was a great person and I was glad they mentioned her name. It was a great evening.

Welcome to Palm Tree, Suwannee County residents. Thank you and Merry Christmas Mayor Nobles.

I have a rant regarding the happy holidays sign at the roundabout. What’s wrong with Merry Christmas. Let’s keep Christ in Christmas. Any other Christians in Live Oak? Let’s hear from you.

Nice letter from the St. Johns River Water Management District that appeared in today’s paper. (inaudible) someone needs to just talk to people in Central Florida about the big developers and the politicians who own and operate the St. Johns Water Management. Let the small business people see how they can’t get permits to do anything and how they issue permits to the politicians and their friends. Be careful Suwannee Valley, they’ll take, St. Johns will suck every bit of water out of here and leave us high and dry. You cannot trust those people.

The newly added palm trees in downtown Live Oak just don't belong there. We are not a beach town or some city in south Florida. Why not plant some native trees in their place? I don't know who made the decision to do this but the trees sure do not look like they are comfortable being there.
