James L. Billups Jr., 86, Wellborn, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 after a long illness. The Parmalee, N.C. native moved to Wellborn in 1999 from Orange Park, Fla. Mr. Billups was a veteran of WWII and Korea while serving in the U.S. Navy and the Coast Guard. After 21 years of service he retired, 17 years with the U.S. Coast Guard and 3.5 years with the U.S. Navy. He was also a watchmaker and attended Wellborn United Methodist Church in Wellborn, Fla. Mr. Billups is survived by his wife of 65 years: Elizabeth Billups, Wellborn, Fla.; one daughter: Bonnie & George Scott, Wellborn, Fla.; one son: James "Randy" & Yvonne Billups, Live Oak, Fla.; one sister: Margie Virginia McClung, Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 11 at Daniels Memorial Chapel with Rev. James Messer officiating. Interment will follow in the Live Oak Cemetery.
