Live Oak —
A Suwannee County Grand Jury indicted 16-year-old Anthony Michael Ortiz this morning for first degree murder while armed with a firearm and two other counts. In addition, Ortiz will be tried as an adult, Third Judicial Circuit State Attorney Robert L. “Skip” Jarvis Jr. said.
Ortiz is accused of shooting and killing Charles David Napier, 49, at his 6074 127th Place home in Suwannee County on April 28. The Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office states that Napier was shot nine times with a .40 caliber handgun around 7 p.m.
Authorities say that Ortiz admitted in an audio statement to murdering Napier and robbing him of $80. In addition to Ortiz’s statement, the report shows that he told a witness about the murder and the witness also wrote and signed a witness statement to that effect.
The grand jury also returned two additional counts of indictment, charging Ortiz with home invasion robbery while armed with a firearm and tampering with evidence.
“Judge (William ‘Lin’) Williams accepted the indictment, ordered a capias issued, and ordered that Ortiz be held without bond,” Jarvis stated. “Ortiz is currently being held in secure detention by the Department of Juvenile Justice in Gainesville. I anticipate that Sheriff (Tony) Cameron will be sending someone down there this afternoon to take custody of him and return him to the Suwannee County Jail.”
